Privacy Policy
Effective 26 May 2026
This page explains what we do with your personal information when you use this website. We are the Mathematical Sciences Foundation, a charitable and educational society registered in India in 2002 under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. If anything here is unclear or you want us to change something about your data, please write to us through the contact page.
What we collect
There are only a few ways we end up holding information about you:
- When you register, we ask for your email and full name. You can also tell us your date of birth, gender, role (student, teacher, researcher, or other), and institution, but those are optional.
- When you send us a message through any contact form on the site, we keep the name, email, optional subject, and message you wrote, along with the page you sent it from and your browser's user-agent string.
- If you sign in with Google instead of a password, Google shares your name, email, and profile picture URL with us.
- If you accept the analytics consent banner, Google Analytics records anonymous page views so we can see which pages people read. We don't store your IP in a form that identifies you.
We don't ask for payment details, government IDs, or biometric information on this site.
Why we collect it
Account details are for running your account and signing you back in. Contact messages let us reply to you. Analytics, if you agreed to them, help us understand what people read on the site so we can improve it. That's the whole list. We don't use your information for advertising and we don't profile you.
The basis we rely on
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, we ask for your consent before storing your data, and we record it when you tick the consent box during registration or accept the analytics banner. If you happen to be visiting from the European Union or the United Kingdom, the corresponding basis under the GDPR is Article 6(1)(a), with a narrow reliance on Article 6(1)(f) for the things we need to do to keep you signed in.
Who else sees your data
We don't sell your data, rent it, or pass it to advertisers. We do rely on a few service providers to run the site, and your information passes through their systems:
- Hostinger, which hosts the website and the server.
- Neon, which provides the PostgreSQL database we use.
- Google, for “Sign in with Google” and (only if you opted in) Google Analytics.
Each of these providers is contractually bound to handle your data only on our behalf, and none of them use it for their own marketing.
Where the data lives
Some of these providers run their servers outside India, mostly in Europe and the United States. By using the site you acknowledge that your information may move to and be processed in those places, with the safeguards those providers offer in their contracts.
How long we keep it
We don't auto-delete accounts that go quiet. Your data stays with us until you tell us to remove it. If you want your account deleted, or any contact message you sent us removed, just write to us through the contact page and we will action it within 30 days.
Analytics data, if you turned it on, is held by Google for the standard 14 months and then deleted automatically.
Your rights
You can at any time:
- Ask what data we hold about you.
- Ask us to fix anything that's wrong.
- Ask us to delete it.
- Withdraw consent you previously gave.
- File a complaint with the Data Protection Board of India, or the relevant authority in your country if you are in the EU or UK.
For any of these, please reach us through the contact page. We try to reply within 30 days, usually faster.
Cookies
Two kinds. The first kind keeps you signed in and is set automatically when you log in. It's a first-party cookie and expires when you sign out, and the site won't work without it. The second kind is for analytics and is only set if you accept the consent banner. Clearing your cookies for this site will reset both choices and you can decide again on your next visit.
Children
The site is open to a general audience, including students. We don't knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 without a parent or guardian's permission. If you think a child has given us their information, let us know through the contact page and we will delete it.
Security
Traffic to the site goes over HTTPS. Passwords are stored hashed with bcrypt, not in plain text. Session cookies are signed. Our admin panel is gated by login. We validate inputs on the server side. No system is perfectly secure, and if we ever discover a breach that puts your personal data at risk we'll tell you and the right authorities without unnecessary delay.
Changes to this page
We may update this page from time to time. If we change something that meaningfully affects how we handle your data we will update the effective date at the top, and for material changes we will try to give you a heads-up before they take effect.
Getting in touch
For any question about this policy or about the data we hold about you, write to us. The contact page has a form that comes straight to the team, or you can use the details below.
