'RECOGNISING RAMANUJAN'

A MATHEMATICS COMPETITION FOR SCHOOLS

(GRADES VI TO IX)

This competition is designed to identify students who have the potential to be like the great mathematician Srinivas Ramanujan.
Eligibility: Open to students (of NCR schools) at two levels: Junior (Std's. VI & VII); Senior (Std's. VIII & IX).

For Part 1 of the Examination:

  • No coaching is needed
  • Only basic familiarity with numbers especially simple properties of prime numbers
  • Ability to reason logically
Format
  • A self-contained lesson of two short paragraphs on some properties of numbers shall be given.
  • Students shall have to answer simple multiple choice questions.
  • Students shall be provided sheets of rough paper to perform calculations.

For Part 2 of the Examination:

Prizes

  1. For top 50 (25 Junior + 25 Senior) performers: 50 Raspberry pi fully equipped computing devices; 25 for Juniors; 25 for Seniors. These are custom purpose computers. A Raspberry Pi (called Astro Pi) is currently being used on the Space Station ISS. Raspberry Pi's are also specially suited towards robotics, making and running drones, ethical hacking, weather station management and for digital art installations etc.
  2. The above winners shall also receive a special certificate recognising them as 'Budding Ramanujan's'
  3. In addition, for the top 10 percent performers at the junior and also at the senior levels:A certificate of merit stating that the participant has the potential to be a Budding Ramanujan.

Registration Process
  1. Students must register through their respective schools.
  2. Schools must officially register online by submitting the entire list of competing students on a single Excel based form which will be sent once this email has been acknowledged (kindly refer below)
and upload the form online at https://bit.ly/2E127iR simultaneously paying the total registration fee by consolidated payment by DD drawn in Favour of 'Mathematical Sciences Foundation' along with the full list of students(Junior& Senior) which must reach by courier by 21st January 2019.

VENUE: There shall be several venues across the NCR and schools shall be notified by email their respective venues.

SPECIAL NOTICE FOR ALL PARTICIPATING SCHOOLS

'MATHEMATICALLY PROGRESSIVE SCHOOL' RECOGNITION CERTIFICATE

All schools that formally register at least 100 students shall be awarded a special recognition certificate by the Mathematical Sciences Foundation certifying the school as 'A Mathematically Progressive School'.

'MATHEMATICALLY MERITORIUS SCHOOL' RECOGNITION CERTIFICATE
Any school that formally registers at least 100 students and if the school ranks in terms of collective performance-in the top 10 percent either at the Senior Level or at the Junior Level shall be awarded a special recognition certificate by the Mathematical Sciences Foundation certifying the school as 'A Mathematically Meritorious School'.

'MATHEMATICALLY OUTSTANDING SCHOOL' RECOGNITION CERTIFICATE
Any school that formally registers at least 100 students and if the school ranks in terms of collective performance-in the top 10 percent either at the Senior Level or at the Junior Level shall be awarded a special recognition certificate by the Mathematical Sciences Foundation certifying the school as 'A Mathematically Outstanding School'.
